When doing smokey eyes, do I....?

...Put white or black first?

On one video I saw someone put white eyeshadow on their whole eyelid, leading up to the brow bone. In a different one I saw her put black on the eyelid and then white on her crease.

Which way looks better?

BQ: how do I blend it pretty? When doing smokey eyes, do I....?
So what i do is i use white all over the eye lid and then put black in/on the crease/crease bone and blend it with a crease brush

basically grab a little bit on the crease brush and blend it on your crease and add more if you want it more intense.

I hope this helps

Defiantly put the white/base colour (can also be a creamy colour) on first. Then you put the darker shades of eyeshadow on, to get the smokey/blended effect then it all depends on the size of you brush. All these videos go on about what brushes to use, like MAC, but to be honest any half decent brush will do, dont feel the need to start buying expensive brushes. Ive only ever had one type of medium brush, and ive used it for years and it certainly does the trick for me.
The white eyeshadow was used as a base to help ease the process of blending. Since powders can tend to stick to the oils on your eyelid, applying a base eyeshadow first will help absorb the oils before you try and do any blending.

If you don't have oily lids and just want your color to look as pigmented as possible, then applying a darker base first helps to make your shadow color look darker.

Either way works just as good, depending on what kind of results you want. I suggest trying both ways to see which one works best for yourself.

Blending takes a lot of patience. You just have to keep working at it, going back and forth in windshield wiper motions until you get it to look the way you want. Hope this helped. When doing smokey eyes, do I....?
step 1: rim your lids with a creamy, slate-black pencil - draw it directly over your lash lines, working from the inner corner of each eye to the outer corners.

step 2: top each eyelid with a wash of silver/grey eyeshadow all the way up towards the crease line of each eyelid.

step 3: add a hint of softness by brushing translucent-silver shadow up towards the brow bone - add dab a little in the corner of your eye.

step 4: finish the smokey-eye look by coating lashes with your fave blackest of black mascara.

sorry i know you didn't ask for all of that! ha ha :)
You don't use white when doing a smoky eye. You also don't have to use black. You can use dark browns, greys, purples, etc.

Go to a salon or a professional and have them show you....but no, you don't prime your lid with white.

It sounds like you're going for a more gothic raccoon look than a smoky, not overexaggerated look. When doing smokey eyes, do I....?
You can do the smokey eye with any color, as long as one is dark and one is light. The dark eye shadow should start from the corner of the eye, and you sweep inward into the crease. I'm not good at explaining it, but here's a video:
