A few nights ago my husband and I drove 60 miles out of our way -- actually 120 round trip -- because that's where the closest place we could get a reliable stash is located. So we got about 5 pounds, and pretty much started finishing off the first pound right away there in the car. Then over the past two days, we finishing up the rest of it. The second day it was phenomenal, I cooked some up and it was even better than way.
We're gonna come down off our high now for a few days, but now that we know we have a relatively local supplier, I can't say for sure that we're going to be able to last. But they aren't really that local, are they? Still, when it's that good... time and distance don't matter.
Yes, I'm talking about Smokey Bones BBQ.
Last year, the company that owns them, which also owns Olive Garden and Red Lobster, suddenly shut down all of the places except a few. So there's like ONE left in the entire north Georgia/Atlanta area, in Kennesaw, and we haven't gone there since all the others shut down. But we went to the recent BBQ festival in Kennesaw -- which was a let down -- and instead went to Smokey Bones. OMG!!!
Seriously, we got 3 racks of St. Louis ribs and 2 pounds of pulled pork. That's it. No sides. No need. Oooooohhhhhhh!!! Their pulled pork is to DIE FOR. I'm generally a vegetarian, but not when it comes to their BBQ! And the ribs. Phenomenal. Their dry rub has something in it that "makes you crave it for a fortnight". (See "So I Married an Axe Murdered") And their sauce is hot, tangy and spicy! And the pulled pork fried up in a pan with some of the sauce, getting a little burn going... seriously, "Cook us up some, wouldja Ren?" (Trainspotting.)
We laughed about it that we felt like addicts in the parking lot. It was like we just picked up our cocaine/heroin fix and we kept doing just "one more line" the whole way home. (Then we were stuffed for the rest of the day.)
Maybe that's why they closed the places down. Too many people getting addicted.
Do you have a favorite food that you feel that way about? That you know isn't good for you... but sometimes, you just gotta....
(And yes, I've been running 5 extra miles every day just to work it all off. But it's worth every drop of sweat.)Am I an addict? Is it okay to just occassionally indulge myself?
I have never been to a Smokey Bones, but thanks to you, I now know that something very wonderful is missing in my life. I will never be satisfied until I find a Smokey Bones that I can visit and enjoy. Seriously, every once in a while you gotta indulge yourself and I'm gonna try their BBQ on your recommendation.Am I an addict? Is it okay to just occassionally indulge myself?
As long as your healthy and happy, it's perfectly ok.
Yes :pAm I an addict? Is it okay to just occassionally indulge myself?
take me there! lol
well, next time time i come down thru hotlanta i'll bring u a half rack of 17th street bar and grill's applechip bbq'd ribs.
(and some cairo ((of cairo, il)) bbq sauce that your favorite ribstaurant has ripped off) in case the apple flavor is too sweet for you.
and my favorite was my grandpa Geno's 2 day rotissery ribs... again cairo sauce but mixed with lea and perrins, a-1, miller lite, cutty sark, and a dash of louisiana hot sauce.Am I an addict? Is it okay to just occassionally indulge myself?
I don't see the problem, I drive over 4 hours to indulge my Italian fix. BTW, I won't tell you what it is because I don't want anyone else to go, the wait is already long. LOL
Yeah. I know what you're talking about. Something that tastes so good you wonder if there is something illegal in it.
My vices are:
Chai Tea
Cranberry turkey sandwiches
Bubble Tea - Gawd what a sugar high that stuff gives!
Thai Food!
And my biggest vice of all: Ben and Jerry's Cherry Garcia!
You're an addict, but who cares? MEAT IS GOOD! Pork is good. Bacon is delicious. The bad thing about this addiction is that it'll probably kill you more surely than drugs hahaha
I loveeeeeeeee it too. Let's start a "Barbecue Anonymous" group!
