It all started on Wed. 12th. Smokey our 9pound pom starting yiking(Painful Cry) out of nowhere. We took him to the Vet And they did a xray and no bones were broke , he didn't swallow any bones according to the xray. The vet said all He could Find wrong was smokey had gas in his stomach on the xray but he said he doubts the gas would make him yike like this. He didn't know what was wrong. So he gave us Remidil and sent him home.It is now the 24th and he is still yiking in pain anytime he moves. He will lift each leg up sometimes also. I called today and they said give him Pepto. Anyone know what could be wrong?Pomeranian yiking everytime he moves?
you need to see a different vet!
small/toy dogs are prone to luxating patellas:the kneecaps move around and this hurts the dog.
another possibility:arthritis in the spine:can be the neck or lower back, just like people.
some dogs get little bone spurs next to the spine:these can cause pain, but best to leave them alone, just use a safer drug please:Metacam is safer
Rymadil caused internal bleeding and death and the company was sued due to this!
i recommend, that you talk to these people:www.dodgerslist.com
many dog owners founded this support group, after finding no help/support for dog owners whose dogs had herniated discs in the back or neck.
my small dog is a mini dachshund and he had surgery to remove herniated discs.
this problem can happen to dozens of dog breeds, not just dachshunds!Pomeranian yiking everytime he moves?
firstly 9 pounds is freakishly big! is he overweight or jsut really badly bred?
sounds like he has patella luxation, which would not show up on Xray.
Patella luxation is most often genetically inherited.
surgery is the only option once they are past grade 2. take him to another vet, for second opinion, and to get his knees (his patellas) checked.
good luckPomeranian yiking everytime he moves?
You should take him to another vet.Pomeranian yiking everytime he moves?
Poor little thing, it's been almost 2 weeks!
If it is gas, why is he getting so much gas? Did you change his food, if not, maybe you should.
Maybe he's plugged and can't pass it, try another vet, there's got to be a reason. Does he have a sticker or thorn stuck anywhere? Check between toes, also. Try rubbing his belly, is it hard?
Is he drinking enough water? Did the Dr. check for worms/parasites?
Did you try the Pepto? Is his hair knotted and pulling somewhere? Is he fixed? Maybe a problem with his testicles? One of my toy fox terriers testicles receded into his tummy and it's very sensitive to touch.
Good Luck, but, you need to find a vet who will really give it a thorough exam.
